What is Symbiostock?
PlingStock is part of the Symbiostock network. Symbiostock is a network of photographers and illustrators, each with their own individual sites selling stock imagery. These sites are networked together, so one search reaches out across the network, returning images or designs from several sites that match your search criteria … much like the image search features on popular search engines.
Buy directly from the artist.
Prices at Symbiostock websites are competitive because there is no middleman; you are buying directly from the artist. Think of it as “fair trade” stock images. There are no subscriptions or credits to purchase; you pay only for the images you need at the size you require.
Symbiostock sites offer images for all your creative projects, from websites and blogs to printed ad campaigns. Looking for editorial images? Got it. Exclusivity? Check. Illustrations? Right here. You want it, we have it.
Searching the network is easy!
Searching on an individual artist’s page will return results from that artist and many more from the network.
Or use our central search page, symbiostock.info, where you’ll find advanced search features like orientation, copy space and color. You’ll instantly search across all 165,000+ images in the network and be linked straight to the artist that can meet your needs.
Better yet, add the Symbiostock search engine to your Firefox search options.
Help spread the word.
Like our Facebook page and share on your own pages. Be sure to come back and share some comments on your Symbiostock experience … and show us where you’re using our artists’ work.
Why should I buy a license here?
You might ask yourself why you should buy a license here and not at one of the big well-known stock agencies where my artwork are also available. Some although not all of the big agencies are increasingly reducing the revenue artists receive for their photos and this is why it is becoming harder for professional photographers and Illustrators to make their living. If you buy a license for my artwork here I benefit from 100 % of what you pay and you are supporting the continued production of high quality work.
What are your benefits in buying from PlingStock?
– No pre-payment
You don’t need credits here or subscription plans, just plain dollars for the images you really need.
– Fresh content
Here you will find my most recent works first, before they are available anywhere else.
– Direct communication
No anonymous support team – you can communicate directly with the artist. If you require a variation of one of my artwork or custom image editing, please feel free to contact me.
What does Royalty Free mean?
The term Royalty Free is a bit confusing and perhaps disappointing. It does not mean that my photos are free. If you want to use them you can buy a license here and after buying it you can use it again for another project without licensing it again. You buy once and can use it as often as you like within the end user license agreement (see the end user license agreement here).
Do I need to register an account to purchase an image license?
You can search photos on PlingStock without creating an account, but if you wish to purchase an image you will need to register. All that is required is your email address and a username and password of your choice.
How does search work on your site?
There are different ways to search on this site:
Using categories in the main menu:
If you use categories to start your search with you will find all images on my site, but not those of my network members. If you are just interested in my images this is the best way to browse my portfolio because it is fast.
Using the search box:
If you start your search with the keyword “Christmas” in the search box, you will get a page where firstly my portrait images appear and then those of my network members. The network members I am linked to may link back to me or may link to other members, so you can click on one of their images and do another search to bring up different results. This search is not as fast as the search by categories, but you will find more photos to choose from.
Using the central network search:
If you want to search the entire symbiostock network you can do so here: symbiostock.info
Bloggee – 250px longest side (suits web use)
The smallest size suitable for use on a website.
Small – 500px longest side (suits web use)
Twice as big as the bloggee size, allowing for a higher resolution image for your website.
Medium – 1000 px longest side (suits small print use)
The medium sized image allows for smaller scale print production.
Large – original file dimensions (suits big print use)
The largest size is generally the original image size (3000 px to 5000 px) and allows for big prints.
How to Buy?
You can shop safely and securely with PayPal, so you don’t need to pay in advance, no credits or subscription plans, just plain dollars for the images you really need. As PlingStock uses PayPal for the payment-process, no financial information is stored on my site. After you have selected one or more images, click on the shopping cart icon on top of the page. You will see all the images in your shopping cart, where you can still remove a file if you want to. Then click on the “Pay Now” button and you will be forwarded to the PayPal site. After you have finished your payment there you will be returned to PlingStock where you can download the photos.
How can I pay if I don’t have a PayPal account?
After clicking on the “Pay Now” button you will be forwarded to the PayPal site. If you don’t have a PayPal account and don’t want to create one just provide Paypal with your bank account or credit card details for a one off experience. Payment will be processed on the safe and secure site of PayPal before you are returned to PlingStock where you can download the photos.
Do you offer refunds?
No, once an image has been downloaded I can’t offer a refund, as there is no way to return a digital file once it has been copied to your hard drive.
Are your photos model-released?
Sure they are! For all photos showing people or only parts of their body there is a signed model-release. There are only very few exceptions in my portfolio: some photos of blurred and unrecognizable business people are not model-released. You will find this information on the single image pages.
Important: Photos in the Category Editorial, are editorial images, these photos are not model or property released and may not be used for commercial purposes!
Do the images I purchase on PlingStock have a watermark?
The small photos shown on PlingStock carry a watermark for security reasons, but once you have bought a license you download a file without a watermark.
How can I use the photos I purchase on PlingStock?
You can use the photos for print, for your website or in your blog, for publicity and advertising, for press (magazines, books, newspapers, brochures), multimedia or printed presentation. You can use them for a second or third project without licensing them again, but you are not allowed to resell or relicense the photos to anyone else.
You may not use my images for projects concerning defamatory topics including for example drugs and drug use, sexual, pornographic, political contexts. This is especially relevant for photos with models. For more details please read the end user license agreement. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Do I own the images I buy?
No, you don’t own them. You license the use of the image, but you do not have the copyright in that image (that stays with me). For more details please read the end user license agreement.
When do I need to buy an extended license?
If you want to print or reproduce an image more than the 100.000 times covered in the regular standard license, or to use the images as part of any physical or electronic items for resale. For more details please read the end user license agreement.
See my image collections for sets of 30 or more images available at a significantly lower price than when licensing separately. These are available in all four sizes (standard or extended license). Each image is a separate JPG file, exactly the same as those sold individually.
Please feel free to contact me, I can create custom sets if you cannot find exactly what you need.
